When designer Vilde Hagelund was introduced to the project, the brief was clear: Ygg & Lyng wanted a new dining chair that was both comfortable and aesthetic. From the start, there was agreement on a concept with a unique character. The process quickly developed into a close collaboration where ideas were discussed and refined. After a factory visit, the focus was on bringing the concept to life and working out the details. Through sketches, scale models, and mockups, proportions and comfort were explored and finalized in a full-scale 3D-printed prototype. Here, ergonomics, balance, and comfort were thoroughly assessed before the chair took its final form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result of this close collaboration is Iden \u2013 a dining chair that truly reflects its name, uniting idea and identity. With flowing lines and a recognisable character, it balances comfort, craftsmanship, and material honesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Molded oak veneer meets solid oak, creating a chair that is both light in expression and strong in construction. The soft arcs of the seat and backrest offer visual lightness and an embracing comfort, while refined details \u2013 almost invisible to the eye \u2013 are instantly felt by the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iden is more than just a chair, it represents a journey from idea to form \u2013 an experience of design, identity, and presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collaborating with Vilde Hagelund has been both inspiring and rewarding. Together, we developed a chair we are truly proud of, while also having the pleasure of getting to know a dedicated and talented designer. The process has been a creative journey filled with valuable insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has also been a joy to take part in Designers\u2019 Saturday Collab and to share this experience with such an enriching community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the designer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vilde Hagelund (b. 1992) is a Norwegian designer who approaches each project by questioning the established and exploring form through experimentation. With a close relationship to materials\u2014especially wood\u2014she moves fluidly between digital and analog sketching, working hands-on to refine form, space, and construction. Combining craftsmanship, material knowledge, and technology, Hagelund aims to create durable alternatives to mass-produced products with short lifespans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She holds degrees in multimedia technology and product design, and has gained experience with Andreas Engesvik and outdoor furniture brand Vestre. Her work has received wide recognition: awarded the DOGA Newcomer Prize in 2019, named among Wallpaper*\u2019s most promising young designers, and recipient of the Scheibler Design Prize in 2022 in collaboration with the National Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
